center of the earth
What the storyteller said: Ocean people talk like the smacking of waves against the rocky shore. River people talk fluid without abrupt pause. East Coast people came down from the North and settled clockwise. West Coast people came down from the North and settled counterclockwise. The Rocky Mountains are the center of the earth.
The rain hitting the streets is how I talk. You can only pray for one day at a time, you can only pray for the present moment. If you go running at dusk and spread the trees, wondering where you’re taking each other, you can see the center of the earth.
