Poetic messages are posted all along the Maine coastline. At Lamoines Beach, rusted monuments say LOVE in cut out metal pieces. There’s a sign at the front of a driveway that reads, “Beck’s Wish.” Hand painted before a gate, “East of Eden,” in front of a driveway in Bar Harbor. There’s a store called “The Curiosity Shop,” which was the name of a band some friends were in back home.

It was too cold and windy to stand outside but we parked on the beach in front of the bay at sunset and watched a black loon float and then dive into the water, returning a few minutes later from the icy sea.

Door Mountain let me in today. And in it was the voice of God. And in it were children. And in it I vowed to honor love before everything else.
