the jukebox playing my songs

checking on my garden
under the clothesline
mentally disabled woman
with dog in the grass
talking on a cell phone
says:
“What do I want out
of life?” pause
“to be happy.”

at the bar the
jukebox playing my
songs

waiting
outside the house
about midnight
I see shapes move
in the gray crack of
window light
I open the car door
and hear
she’s all strung out
on something
can hardly talk
darted
up says turn off
the tv
all static
‘baby baby’
not making sense
naked
from the waist
down
